A QR code is not magic and it is not a service — it is a picture of a piece of text. For an RSVP, that text is the web address guests should land on. Everything else follows from getting that address right before anything gets printed.

code stores the link exactly as written; a single wrong character means a dead scan.The best spot is wherever a guest is already holding something and has their phone within reach.
Wherever it goes, print the plain web address next to it as well. A meaningful number of guests will not scan a code — some can't, some won't, and some are reading a photocopy. The written link costs you one line and rescues all of them.
The code itself cannot expire. It is a printed pattern that encodes a web address, and there is no clock inside it and no server checking whether it is still allowed to work. What can expire is the page at the other end. If that address stops resolving, gets deleted, or is moved without a redirect, the scan lands on an error — not because the code died, but because its destination did.
This is worth knowing because some QR services do add an expiry: they encode a link to their tracking domain, which then forwards to yours, and that forwarding stops when a trial ends or a subscription lapses. The codes you generate here contain your address and nothing else, so there is no middleman to switch off. RSVP.link pages do not expire either — an event stays in your dashboard with its responses after the day has passed.
No. This is the single most important thing to understand before you send anything to a printer.
A QR code is ink. Once it is on paper the web address inside it is fixed forever. You cannot re-point a
printed code at a different address, because there is nothing to re-point — the address is the
image. If you print a code for rsvp.link/smith-party and later decide the page should live
somewhere else, every printed copy still sends guests to the old address.
So the practical rule is: choose the final address before you print, and then never change it. Concretely, that means settling on your custom link before ordering invitations rather than after, and resisting the temptation to delete and recreate the event later — edit the existing page instead. On RSVP.link you can change the theme, the questions, the date, the cover image and the wording of a live event as often as you like without affecting the link, so there is almost never a reason to move it.
Paid services sell "dynamic" codes as the answer to this: their code points at their redirect domain, and you edit the destination in their dashboard. It genuinely solves the problem, but it makes your printed invitations dependent on someone else's subscription staying active. A stable address you control is the safer trade for a one-off event.
Keep it at least 2 cm (about 0.8 in) square on an invitation or reply card. That is the smallest size that scans reliably on a normal phone at arm's length, and going below it is the most common reason a printed code fails.
Scanning distance is what really drives the size. A useful rule of thumb is that the code should be about one tenth as wide as the distance it will be scanned from: 2 cm for arm's length, roughly 10 cm for a code on a table sign read while standing, and considerably larger again for a poster people scan from across a room.
Search for a QR generator and most of the results will try to sell you a monthly plan. It is worth being clear about what that money actually buys, because for an RSVP it usually buys nothing you need.
There are two kinds of QR code. A static code contains your address directly. It works offline, forever, for free, and nobody can turn it off. A dynamic code contains a link to the vendor's domain, which redirects to wherever you currently point it. That indirection is what lets you edit the destination after printing and see scan analytics — and it is what you are paying the subscription for. It also means your printed invitations only keep working for as long as that vendor keeps running and you keep paying.
For a wedding, a birthday or a baby shower, a static code pointing at a stable address is almost always the right answer. The event happens once, the address does not need to change, and scan counts are not interesting when the RSVP page already tells you exactly who replied.
